Bronx surgeon is accused of sexually harassing two female residents
The former head of surgery at a New York City hospital has been portrayed in a harassment lawsuit as a sex-crazed predator who brushed up against female colleagues during operations and sent them inappropriate text messages.
Dr Brian Gilchrist resigned from Bronx-Lebanon Hospital last year after he was accused of harassing female residents, according to a lawsuit filed last week in Bronx Supreme Court.
The women behind the suit, Dr Prava Thapa and Dr Sushant Remersu, claimed that Gilchrist sent one resident a photo of himself wearing nothing but a towel and texted another about 'spanking' her.
Thapa and Remersu have now accused Bronx-Lebanon of firing them from the hospital's residency program in retaliation for complaining about Gilchrist's conduct.
The lawsuit claims that 63-year-old Gilchrist initially took an interest in Thapa, 35, but later turned his affections toward another resident in her 20s in 2017.
The surgeon allegedly emailed the unnamed woman: 'My love for you is deep ... and yes, I crave you' and would 'deliberately' make contact with her breasts during surgery.
The resident brought her complaints about Gilchrist to Thapa and Remersu, telling him that he had made her feel 'extremely uncomfortable'.

Court filings say Gilchrist resigned days after the woman and Thapa reported his alleged harassment to hospital officials.
The hospital later sent a letter to Thapa and Remersu which said: 'The majority of your allegations were well-founded.'
However, they were soon fired over what the suit describes as false allegations of improperly prescribing medications.

ShareGilchrist has denied the allegations against him in legal papers, calling them 'false and without foundation' and 'an effort to distract attention from [the accusers'] own conduct', according to the New York Post.
He maintained that his emails to one of the women were 'not unwelcome'.
A lawyer for Bronx-Lebanon Hospital 'vigorously denied the allegations', the Post reported.

This is the second harassment lawsuit against Gilchrist, who was sued in 2015 by a California surgeon he was previously in a romantic relationship with.
Dr Jean Gillon accused Gilchrist of begging her to loan him money after she learned that she had a large insurance settlement headed her way.
Gillon claimed that Gilchrist lied and said he needed cash to buy a co-op 'for us' and promised that if she gave him $250,000 he would use it to get her son into a New York City medical school.
Gillon said refused to join in on the scheme but ultimately lent Gilchrist $500,000.
She filed her lawsuit to get that money back, claiming in court filings that he had told her: 'If you were a male I would take you out back and thrash you.'
The suit was settled under a confidentiality agreement, and Gilchrist later said it had 'involved a financial transaction which was resolved amicably'.
