Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams makes fun at her own ‘fame’

Michelle Williams is an American singer and actress who rose to fame in the early 2000s as a member of the R&B girl group Destiny’s Child, one of the best-selling female groups of all time.

The final line-up of Destiny’s Child included Williams alongside superstar Beyoncé Knowles and actress and singer Kelly Rowland. The group was active from 1990 until 2006.

Born on 23 July 1979, in Rockford, Illinois, the music star is currently age 44 years old.

Williams recently starred in an Uber One commercial for the Australia and New Zealand region, in which she is shown joking it’s “disappointing” no one recognizes her in public.

Uber has unveiled her as their latest star to front their membership campaign to promote the benefits of Uber One.

The Grammy-winning sensation shines with impeccable comedic timing owning a joke that she, “was in one of the most iconic girl groups and no one recognises me.”

Spoofing the notion she is the third favorite child, the campaign starts with the glamorous musician strutting through Sydney’s Botanical Gardens before a series of awkward mistaken identity moments follow.

In one instance, Michelle thinks a fan has recognized her only to discover he is yelling at his disobedient dog named Michelle.

Williams has plenty of fun in the commercial, continuing to make self-deprecating jokes in a series of additional vignettes, while the campaign builds on the idea that Uber One savings do not disappoint: “Being in one of the most iconic girl groups and not being recognized is disappointing. But at least Uber One savings don’t disappoint!”

Michelle Williams speaks out about hilarious commercial

Speaking about the campaign, Michelle Williams said: “I love visiting Australia, I love the savings I score on Uber One and I love the Aussie sense of humor so this campaign was fun for me.”

After the Uber advertisement had dropped, Williams took to social media describing it as “hilarious.”

In an Instagram video, the artist explained: “I get to be in on the jokes. Certain jokes y’all know I don’t care too much about, especially 24 years later.”

Williams explained she had so much fun being part of the ad, and also announced she will soon be appearing on Broadway in a new musical based on the 1992 classic film Death Becomes Her.
